77 felons got gun deer licenses in Wisconsin last year, report says

MILWAUKEE — Dozens of convicted felons purchased licenses last year to hunt deer with guns, even though state law bans them from possessing firearms, a newspaper found.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel said in a story on its webpage for today's editions that its analysis of state records showed at least 77 felons bought deer hunting licenses in 2006.
The number likely was higher because only one-fifth of Wisconsin hunters applying for a license consented to allowing their names to be released to the public.
