Learn to track mammals course offered Saturday at Kettle Moraine State Forest-Southern Unit

http://dnr.wi.gov/news/releases/article/?id=3288

EAGLE, Wis. - People interested in learning to identify what tracks and signs different kinds of mammals leave in the wild can attend a three-hour Learn to Track Mammals course Saturday, August 16 at the Southern Unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest.

"Mammals live all around us, but we don't often get to see them, says Melanie Kapinos, assistant naturalist for the forest. "But we can enter their world by reading their tracks and sign. It is one of the most ancient of human skills."

The class includes an hour long indoor portion of classroom information at the forest headquarters, located 3 miles west of the village of Eagle on State Highway 59. Then participants head out into the forest to put the new tracking skills to use. The class runs from 9 a.m. to noon. Reservations are not required, but participants should be ready to go in the field with appropriate footwear and dressed for the weather.

For more information contact the Kettle Moraine State Forest - Southern Unit at 262-594-6200. For more events at the forest or other State Park and Forest properties, search the Department of Natural Resources website dnr.wi.gov for "Get Outdoors."
