Explore Minnesota Birding Update March 6, 2014
This is a great time to watch for early returning migrants, including Canada geese, bald eagles and American kestrels. The first eastern bluebirds and wood ducks also return in March to look for nesting sites and boxes.

The following is a list of recent, significant sightings:
On March 5th, Jim Lind reported an adult Great Black-Backed Gull flying up the shore of Lake Superior at Two Harbors in Lake County.
On March 1st, John Kroll reported an early Sandhill Crane about two miles east of Clarissa on Todd County Road 20 in Todd County.
And Fred Eckhart has had a Red-Shafted Flicker in his yard in Boyd, Lac qui Parle County, since December 24th.
A number of birding events and weekend outings are right around the corner; birders are encouraged to plan ahead as many of these events fill quickly.
