Vermont spending $150K for salamander crossing
Photo26 The Monkton (Vermont) Conservation Commission has received $150,000 in state-administered federal transportation funding to install one or two culverts intended to offer safe under-road passage for amphibians, reptiles and small mammals at Huizenga Swamp. Volunteers who have monitored the swampside thoroughfare for nine springs say about 50 percent of the critters attempting to cross the highway are flattened. The Burlington Free Press.
