Large fish kill in eastern Wisconsin

GREEN LAKE, Wis. (AP) -- The state Department of Natural Resources is trying to find out what caused as many as 2,000 fish to wash ashore on a lake in eastern Wisconsin.

Dead walleye, white bass and carp line the shores of Lake Puckaway in Green Lake County.

DNR fisheries supervisor Ron Bruch says they're investigating whether a disease killed the fish. The agency is also looking into whether nets from a commercial carp removal company caused the fish kill.

Lake Puckaway Protection and Rehabilitation District chairman Phil Malsack says the kill is devastating for a fisherman because of the waste of a resource.

Malsack says it shouldn't significantly impact fishing next year.
