Anglers who fish for walleye on Lake Winnibigoshish and connected waters will have a chance to discuss existing experimental fishing regulation with Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) staff at two open-house style public meetings.
The first will be at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct, 20, at the Bug-O-Nay-Gee-Shig School, located on U.S. Highway 2 between Cass Lake and Bena. The second will be at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 21, at the Minnesota Interagency Fire Center Training Room, 402 SE 11th Street in Grand Rapids.
Both meetings will begin with a short presentation followed by an opportunity to ask questions and make comments on the proposal to extend the existing protected slot regulation for one more year. The regulation requires that all walleye from 17-26 inches be immediately released. Anglers are allowed to possess one walleye longer than 26 inches.
The extension is necessary to complete a more thorough analysis of the effects of the regulation and to recommend potential changes for future years.
