Minnesota Birding Report April 2,2009
In general, mid-March through mid-April is an excellent time to see waterfowl migration. Consider a trip to a state or federal wildlife refuge to view these birds.
The following is a list of recent, significant sightings:
On March 28, a Eurasian Wigeon was found at the north end of Peterson Lake in Wabasha County. It was seen from the lake’s boat launch.
In Duluth, the immature Golden-Crowned Sparrow was seen again on March 29 at 21 East College Street.
An adult Lesser Black-Backed Gull was on the ice at Diamond Lake in south Minneapolis on March 28.
Two Townsend’s Solitaires were at Ann Lake within Sand Dunes State Forest near Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge on March 28.
And returning migrants reported this week include Great Egret, Black-Crowned Night-Heron, and Fox Sparrow.
