$900,000 in State Wildlife Grant funding now available
Project pre-proposal deadline December 22
MADISON – Organizations, agencies, municipalities and individuals working to conserve wildlife and natural places in Wisconsin have until Dec. 22 to submit proposal for grants from the federally funded State Wildlife Grants Program.
The Department of Natural Resources has approximately $900,000 available for the 2009-2011 funding cycle. Projects will be ranked by how well they help implement the Wisconsin Wildlife Action Plan.
“The Wildlife Action Plan outlines actions that Wisconsin citizens can take to conserve wildlife and natural places before they become more rare and more costly to protect or land on the endangered or threatened species list,” said Signe Holtz, director of the DNR Bureau of Endangered Resources. “The plan is a proactive way to conserve wildlife and natural places for future generations.”
In 2007, DNR received 108 applications requesting nearly $4.6 million. Fifteen projects were selected to receive funding of almost $730,000 during 2007-2009 Biennial Budget. A list of current and past projects funded through the program is available on the DNR Web site.

Wisconsin’s Wildlife Action Plan was approved by the Natural Resources Board in August 2005 and accepted by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in September 2005. State Wildlife Grant funds will be used for projects to help implement the plan.
