Demon Trapshooters Branch Out in SCTP ChampionshipsAfter competing in trapshooting events for the first five years since the team began Scholastic Clays Target Program (SCTP) competition in 2005, the BHS Demons Trapshooting team added a skeet team to compete in the state and national tournaments in 2010. The Burlington team has expanded its horizons even further in 2011 by participating in American trap, Skeet and Sporting Clays WI SCTP State Championships. The team will also soon ad International Trap to it's resume.
Earlier in the month, the Burlington bunch won two gold medals, silver and a bronze at the SCTP Trap Championship at Hartford on June 18th.
On June 20th the Demons added more hardware taking the Varsity and Intermediate Entry gold medals and Junior Varsity bronze in the second annual WI SCTP Skeet State Championships held at the Waukesha Gun Club. Burlington was led by Jordan Hintz breaking 89 of 100 targets and was joined on the podium by Ethan Kerr (87) and Sam Kafura (83) for a team score of 259 besting the Waukesha Gun Club team by just two targets for the gold. Racine Lutheran brought home the bronze.
Cody Joerndt, Anna Sommers and Mariah Kerr won the Junior Varsity bronze with a score of 196.
Perhaps most impressive was the Intermediate Entry squad of Cody McCarthy, Hunter Conrad and Weston Uhlenhake who broke 235 targets to win the skeet gold over Westosha Central.
On June 28th, the Wern Valley Sportsman?s Club was host to the first-ever WI SCTP Sporting Clays State Championships. The BHS Varsity squad of Sam Kafura (82), Ethan Kerr (77) and Jordan Hintz (76) broke 235 of 300 targets to earn silver behind a much more experienced Waukesha Gun Club squad. Racine Lutheran took the bronze.
The BHS Junior Varsity squad of Alex Fennig, Cody Joerndt and Mariah Kerr earned the bronze in sporting clays.
Demons Intermediate Advanced took home gold with Cody McCarthy leading the way with an impressive 82 along with teammates Hunter Conrad and Alexa McCarthy totaling 215 targets.
There were a total of 35 shooters from five WI SCTP programs in the skeet championships and 45 shooters in the sporting clays championships, a tremendous turnout for the inaugural event.

Nearly 40 members of the BHS Demons Trapshooting team will travel to Sparta, IL from July 13th to 16th for the SCTP American Trap Nationals. About a dozen members of the team will also participate in Sporting Clays and Skeet at the Nationals competition against over 1200 young athletes from all over the United States.
The Burlington team will also send several three-person squads of youth shooters to the SCTP International Trap finals in Colorado Springs, Colorado on July 23rd to 28th where they will compete in International ?bunker style? trap with several hundred other teens with Olympic aspirations.
In preparation for the International Trap finals, the SCTP also held a 75-target wobble trap tournament on June 20th at Waukesha. Burlington shooters won the Varsity and Junior Varsity first place awards. Jordan Hintz (73), Myles Walker (68), and Sam Kafura (68) took the Varsity award breaking 207 of 225 targets, while Alexa McCarthy (64), Mariah Kerr (59), and Cody Joerndt (59) paced the Junior Varsity with 182.
