Max McGee: Glory Years 'family' mourns a brother

The death of former Green Bay Packers receiver Max McGee on Saturday was like losing a close family member, according to longtime teammate and Pro Football Hall of Famer Willie Davis.

The news of McGee's accidental death after falling off the roof at his suburban Minneapolis home spread quickly among former teammates.

Paul Hornung was on the telephone with Forrest Gregg, who in turned called Davis, who also had spoken with Jerry Kramer and Marv Fleming.

Another key member of the Packers' Glory Years teams from the 1960s was gone, and McGee's former teammates took the time to console one another.

"I was just shocked when I heard the news last night," Davis said Sunday afternoon.
