Wisconsin Statewide Birding ReportWarm temperatures and the onset of March has spurred the first flush of early migrants into the state. Southern Wisconsin has seen its first influx of sandhill cranes, waterfowl, red-winged blackbirds, turkey vultures, ring-billed gull, horned larks and song sparrows. Bald eagles and great-horned owls are now actively nesting in the southern portions of the state. This week should bring additional migrants including some additional pushes of white-fronted and Canada geese, diving ducks, cranes and blackbirds. Other arrivals to watch for include red-shouldered hawks, killdeer and meadowlarks. As always, please report sightings to Wisconsin eBird (
www.ebird.org/WI) to help better track migrant bird populations.
