Lingering winter clouds Wisconsin's spring turkey forecast

PESHTIGO — The 2008 spring turkey hunting season approaches as remnants of winter remain on the landscape.
Consistently deep snow and frigid temperatures from early December through early April manufactured the first statewide test of wild turkey resourcefulness since the birds were reintroduced to northern Wisconsin during the past decade.
Until this point, the species has flourished in all regions of the state, though the birds' ability to survive a harsh winter in wooded sectors north of Wisconsin 64 never has been probed.
