Hayward Lakes Trail and Snow Report-Feb 23, 2010
Posted on: 2010-23-02

The trails made it through threw last weeks warm up with minimal damage and we are expecting small amounts of snow the next few days. Temperatures are going to be below normal all this week with a slight warm up for the weekend. In other words the weather is a non-factor for our trail system and they will be excellent for this coming week and weekend.

This weekend is the American Birkibiner Cross Country Ski Race (largest in North America). There are some great vantage points to watch 8,000 brightly skiers from your snowmobiles. The famous Heckle Hill is one. This is where snowmobile trail 77 crosses the Birkie Trail. Snowmobiler?s line up on this hill which has a nasty corner at the bottom and at times there are huge pile ups of skiers and the snowmobiler?s hold up cards 1-10 ranking the crashes. It is all in good fun and many skiers look forward to the hill. There will also be a camera crew here all week doing a National TV show on snowmobiling in the Hayward area. If you are up you will probably run in to them and they will be here at Heckle Hill. Don?t forget about another National event the Hayward 300 Snow Cross Race on March 6th and 7th.
