Are there any trails near the Mn/WI border that can be ridden after Nov 1st?

Sawyer County winter  trails There are roughly 10 countywide ATV and snowmobiles clubs that have formed a Sawyer County Alliance. These Sawyer County clubs work together to formalize the interconnecting trail systems which provides close to 125 miles in this county alone!

There are around 125 miles of wintertime ATV trails available in Sawyer County, Wisconsin. However, keep in mind that not all ATV trails are open year round and townships vary regarding the use of town roads as ATV routes. Remember to ride and stay only on authorized ATV routes which are clearly marked with green and white signs, so designated as “ATV routes”.
Sawyer County is also noted for its abundance of cross country ski trails. These trails, which include the famous Birkebeiner Ski Trail, are for non-motorized use only so pay special attention to those designated signs and head their warnings. All outdoor enthusiasts, both silent sports and motorized, should respect each others rights to recreate in the manner and way that was intended when the various trails were planned and laid out.

A new segment of the Tuscobia Trail in southern SawyerCounty (with a very small segment in WashburnCounty) will now be open to ATV winter use from the Village of Birchwood to the Village of Winter. This change in policy is from December 15th of 2004 and is good through November 15th of 2005 as a one year trial. The eastern half of the trail from Winter to ParkFalls will remain closed for ATVs in the wintertime during this trial period.

A major concern, one I’d like to stress with our Badger Sportsman readers, is that no ATVer should venture onto private property off the designated trail. This is our number one challenge and we need all responsible ATV riders to help us achieve this goal. We must do our part in respecting the property rights of adjacent land and property owners. Violations may result in rescinding this new winter riding rule so please do your part and watch for any infractions and report them immediately if you see anyone abusing the golden rule of trail riding.

The December 15 date is in place to keep motorized recreation traffic off the trail during deer hunting season and, with normal snowfall, allow for the snow to set up after grooming.  In the event we don’t have snow in December the trail can be used by ATV riders, according to Tim Miller, the DNR trail manager for this linear state trail.
