Burlington Trapshooters Sweep

Powers Lake, WI -- May 21, 2011.
The Burlington High School Demons Trapshooting team has been on a roll so far in 2011. After winning the Wisconsin State High School Shoot at Mayville last week, the Demons team swept the podium at the Wilmot Invitational Shoot by earning the top three team and top individual awards. Nearly 200 young athletes from six area programs competed in the annual event hosted by the Powers Lake Sportsman's Club.

The BHS Demons #1 squad of Adam Tunstra, Myles Walker, Jordan Hintz, Ethan Kerr and Sam Kafura broke 475 out of 500 targets to claim the top prize narrowly defeating BHS #2 of Christian Jensen, Devon Stickrod, Josh Criscimagna, Andrew Temple and Alex Fennig who carded 470/500. The Demons squad #3 of Gunnar Knight, Brent DeBruine, Matt Henningfield, Cody Schilz and Becca Alby won the bronze with 455/500.

Junior Ethan Kerr was crowned Grand Champion breaking 98/100 targets with BHS teammates Henningfield (97), Jensen (96) and Hintz (96) earning the Class A awards.

Completing a family sweep, Kerr's younger sister Mariah took the top spot in the ladies division with an 87 narrowly beating teammate Becca Alby by just one target. In the intermediate division for 5th to 8th graders, Hunter Conrad took second with an 87, and Anna Sommers won first in Class D.

The Burlington High School Demons Trapshooting team is hosted by the Burlington Conservation Club and has been involved in promoting the safe handling of firearms, teamwork, integrity and sportsmanship since 2005. The fifty-plus member team of 5th through 12th grade students from the Burlington area is also a member of the SE WI SCTP Youth Trapshooting Conference comprised of eight Southeastern Wisconsin school-based teams. The Demons are led by first year head coach Denis Sommers.
