WBA Proposes antlerless deer harvest ban for Bow hunters

Wisconsin Bowhunters Committed to
Equity and Rebuilding the Deer Herd

CLINTONVILLE, WI: For nearly 70 years, Wisconsin Bowhunters Association has been an advocate for hundreds of thousands of Bowhunters and deer hunters statewide.

In response to the sharply declining deer herd and in recognition of the fact that firearms deer hunters have been temporarily prohibited from harvesting antlerless deer in management units experiencing low deer numbers.

Wisconsin Bowhunters Association is recommending the Department of Natural Resources and the Natural Resources Board temporarily suspend the ability of Bowhunters to harvest antlerless deer in any unit in which the harvest of antlerless deer is prohibited for firearms deer hunters.

Wisconsin Bowhunters Association firmly believes that if a temporary prohibition on antlerless deer harvest is necessary to rebuild the state?s deer herd, that the responsibility should be shared equally by all deer hunters regardless of weapon used.

Once deer numbers rebound, all hunters will again enjoy the ability to share equally in the harvest of antlerless deer, which has meant so much to the economy, social fabric and history of our great state. Wisconsin Bowhunters care deeply for the herd and are eager to continue thetradition of keeping Wisconsin?s deer numbers in check through the voluntary herd reduction that we provide.
