Minocqua Wi. area fishing report 1.13.10 After a week of cold weather and high pressure shut things down, Tuesday (1/12) saw a drop in the barometer and a rise in temperature bringing in a lot of activity the following report rates from last week through today (1/13) with a sharp rise in the ratings as of the past 36 hours.
Crappies: Fair-Good. Action really picked up in bays with 8-12' weeds. Slow dropping plastics on #8 rockers best. Waxies also working as is minnows on tip-downs towards dusk.
Walleye: Fair-Good. After a miserable week, the bite has picked up back in the bays as walleyes moving in about dusk and staying till 8-9am. Shiners best on tip-downs in these weeds. #3 Jigging Rapalas tipped with minnow head also working well on aggressive fish.
Pike: Fair-Good. Fish moving into weeds, aggressive. Use large shiners in 6-10' weeds, add a small spinner blade 4" above hook for added appeal.
Bluegill: Fair-Good. Small #12 jigs tipped with thin slice of Chena or a moussee. Start with dark colored jigs, switch to brighter and larger #10 moon glo if bite gets going.
Perch: Fair-Good. Lots of smaller fish being reported, but anglers working a little deeper over the mud picking up some nice 9-10"ers in 14-18'. Wigglers best. Orange, yellow, gold #2 pimples, hali jigs.
Largemouth Bass: Fair. You know it's got to be nice if the bass are making an impact. Bass to 20" taking shiners on tip-ups set for pike and even gobblin up waxies on teardrops used for gills.
Whitefish: Fair-Good. Work deep breaks in 70' of water, 4-6' up using #4 , #5 gold, yellow or chartruese pimples, also kastmasters, tip with waxies. Nice smokers of 14-17" with a few in low 20" class.
This week looks to be a nice reprieve from last couple of weeks of sub-zero mornings. Ice firming with less slush, thickening some but still running 8-11" on average so truck traffic iffy, but ATV and snowmobile fine.
