Lake of the woods Fishing Reports

The north west angle Fishing Report

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

May 2nd, 2007

With the spring sturgeon season open until May 7th, numerous boats have been spotted along the river from Four Mile Bay to Baudette and beyond.  Currently 40 to 50 inch sturgeon are being reported, with the bite picking up in recent days after a brief slow period at the end of last week.  Multiple 60 plus inch fish have been caught and released, with many anglers reporting a strong bite in the afternoon/evening hours.  Anglers have been catching these fish in the typical lake sturgeon fashion – a single large hook loaded up with three to four night crawlers, fishing on the bottom.

Don't forget, the first Annual Sturgeon Tournament is set for Friday and Saturday, May 4th & 5th.  What better way to spend the final weekend before walleye opener than by catching one of the biggest freshwater fish in North America?  Call today for more information: 800-862-8602

Lake of the Woods also enjoys a continuous northern season, which is finding great success in recent days.  While area residents are reporting limits of northern under 30 inches being caught off local docks, reports have also come in of 40 to 45 inch fish being caught and released in the tributaries to the Rainy River, along with shallower areas along Zipple and Clementson Bay.
