Minocqua area fishing report 10.5.09
« on: September 17, 2009, 04:57:42 PM »
Fall has come quickly.  Water temps that were running around 68* fell to an average of 55-56* on most lakes.  These lakes will most likely see turnover very soon.

Musky:  Fair to Good. Action picked up.  It's definitely sucker time with such cool temps.  While bucktails still working (46" Tiger on Friday), best options are twitch baits, jerks, gliders and suckers on quick sets.  Weeds still key.

Crappie:  Fair to Good.  Work outside weed lines of 10-16' with medium fatheads as crappies stacking up along deep edges.

Perch:  Fair to Good.  Surprisingly shallow.  Fish sparse weeds on sand flats of 6-10'.  Fatheads on 1/16 oz jigs or below floats.

Pike:  Fair to Good. 6" Twitch baits, #5 Mepps over weed flats.

Largemouth:  Fair to Good.  fish holding along deep weeds.  Slow fish plastics such as chompers, wooly bugs.

Smallmouth:  Fair to Good.  Fish deep off shore humps.  Drop shot 3" plastics.  Football jigs tipped with skirted grubs.

Walleye:  Fair.  Haven't seen a good set up yet, but fish moved out of shallows seeking deeper, less turbulent (temp changing) water.  Start verticle jigging minnows, dragging Lindy rigs and chubs.

Bluegill:  No reports

With such a sharp drop in water temps, thing a bit "turmultuous".  Rough weather kept anglers off water.  Forecast for this week has highs only in low 50's, watch for temps to slowly continue to drop.  Watch for turn-over (cloudy water, lots of debris) and be prepared to move to other lakes.  Some curly leaf cabbage beds showing signs of dying off.
