Chetek Chain of Lakes fishing report December 10,2008
Congratulations to the young fisherman that caught a 12lb. walleye 2 weeks ago with first ice. That is a keeper.
The lakes are making some ice now. With these past cold blasts and with the couple coming this week the fishermen will have to pull out the power augers if they haven't already.
Walleye fishing has been pretty consistent since the start of hard water fishing. Fishermen are having plenty of flags and action when fishing for the elusive walleye. Tip -up fishing is how most of the fishermen have been getting action. Shiners, Redtails, and creek chubs have been working for bait.
Northern pike fishermen have been still getting plenty of action, also. Shiners or good size sucker minnows have been the bait of choice for these fishermen. Some of the bigger northerns have been caught while walleye fishing in the late mid-day.
Pan fishing has been very good for local fishermen fishing North Prairie lake. . Some days better are than others, meaning some days you have to sort.
Please try not to exceed the limit when fishing pan fish on the chain . We have had a couple of poor spawning seasons for pan fish these last couple of years. And I know we can't control the spawning seasons, but we as fishermen can control and help by not over taking of pan fish and let the little ones go, so they can grow. Thank you, for helping protect our natural resources.
Good luck fishermen and think of safety when planning your fishing trips. Call local area businesses and check ice conditions, if not familiar with the lakes, you will be fishing when in the Chetek area.
Thank you, from Steve at Up-der North Guide service.
