Minnesota Birding Report Friday, July 25
In general, July is an excellent time to see American white pelicans. Good locations to view these birds include the Minnesota River dam in Granite Falls, the dam near Watson, and the spillway on Marsh Lake near Appleton.
The following is a list of recent, significant sightings:
A White-Eyed Vireo was discovered at Murphy-Hanrehan Park in Scott County on July 19. It was found along the pet trail roughly 200 yards south of trail intersection marker #29. An adult Mute Swan was still at the Schaar’s Bluff area of Spring Lake Regional Park near Hastings in Dakota County on the 19th. To view this bird, check the Mississippi River, roughly three-quarters of a mile north of the picnic area.
On July 20, Tom Bell noticed a Carolina Wren in his yard on Grey Cloud Island of St. Paul Park in Washington County.
On July 18, a female Summer Tanager was along the Blue Hill Trail at the Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge in Sherburne County. The bird was a few yards prior to the main trail that turns left into the woods.
