WDNR's 09 deer season proposal kills December gun hunt!
33 units in earn-a-buck status in 2008 along with a four-day, mid-October antlerless gun season under a preliminary proposal
Will implement the October gun hunt we had in place two years ago everywhere in the state except in central forest management units 53, 54A, 55, 56 and 58.
This year's antlerless hunt will be held Oct. 16-19, approximately two weeks earlier than previous October seasons in an attempt to accommodate bowhunters.
A statewide youth deer hunt will be held the weekend of Oct. 4-5. Participants will be able to take a deer of any sex provided they have the appropriate tag for the unit in which they are hunting.
The following units have been proposed for earn-a-buck this fall: Units 22A, 47, 54B, 54C, 59B, 59C, 59D, 59M, 60B, 60M, 61, 61A, 61B, 62B, 63A, 63B, 64, 64M, 65B, 66, 67A, 67B, 68A, 68B, 72, 73B, 73D, 74A, 74B, 77C, 80A, 80B and 81.
The preliminary proposal will be presented to the public at a series of statewide deer informational meetings beginning Monday. Input from those sessions and a final review of winter severity will be considered at a late March meeting of the deer committee before submitting a final recommendation to the Natural Resources Board in April.
