Minocqua area fishing report 3.3.08
Inland lakes gamefish season is now over. Lots of ice and opportunity to pursue crappies, bluegills and perch. A few noteworthy gamefish to end the season, including a 7 1/4# walleye and a 38", 14# pike.
Yellow perch: Fair to good. Deep water most consistent, but even these fish affected by high pressure. Fish mud flats of 18-38'. Pimples, Hali jigs, Forage spoon, Rattle spoons tipped with wigglers. Many deep perch reported regurgitating wigglers. Use #2 and #3 spoons to get down quickly. Weed fish got finicky, swith to smaller crappie minnows when using tip downs in 8-12' cabbage.
Bluegills: Fair to good. Shallower (6-10') weeds require 1-2# test and tiny #12 jigs tipped with moussees. Work deeper (12-16') mud, outside edges for larger gills along bridge pilings, big deep docks. Use #8 jigs tipped with waxies, wigglers.
Crappies: Fair to good. Very weather dependent. Minnows on tip-downs of Flowages. Plastics on rocker spoons, swedish hooks for flutter on lakes. Nice fish to 14" - 1 1/2# this weekend on Minocqua. This bite will build later into month.
Reports of ice close to 30" and forecast for cold March means we should see ice into April. Watch for SW winds, dropping barometer for best days. Work evenings for crappies.
To all of those that participated in the Jamboree, we would just like to say thank you for your business, nice comments and it was a pleasure meeting a lot of new faces.
