Northwest Wisconsin fishing report
Welcome to July 2015. Woohoo, we are halfway through 2015 and so far we have had a great fishing season. Summer is in full swing in the northland and so is the fishing. Instead of chasing the usual walleye bite this last week, we decided to pin down on some gill and crappie action. Fishing deeper water seemed to do the trick for the bluegill bite. Using live bait (worm chunks, leeches and crappie minnows) produced the most success. Fishing relative locations to dark vegetative cover with slip bobbers or light jigs like 1/32 northland fishing tackle jigs and using light fast action tipped St Croix Rods have been instrumental. Water temps are still climbing and fish are now into their summer patterns with the booming growth of all local area waters. We love gill fishing and some areas do not even require a boat. Finding success from a shoreline can make for a great day!

Bass action is also booming with many largemouth and smallmouth taking spinners or double jointed rapalas, etc. Start out casting shorelines with submerged trees, and or vegetation. Smallies have been hovering around any sand/gravel or boulder areas, as well as weeds. Pike are ever present (not many baits a pike will not hit).

Walleyes continue to be biting periodically, but the best action has come from the inland waters. However, we are starting to see more success from Lake Superior for a walleye bite. As we climb into summer, the lake superior walleye bite will get better. Hope everyone has a terrific 4th of July, and remember practice safe boating!
