Explore Minnesota Birding Report Update June 1, 2012
Warblers in full breeding plumage will add vivid color and beautiful sound to our northern forests and landscapes from the end of May through early June. Consider attending the Boreal Birding Festival events at Chik-Wauk Museum & Nature Center located up the Gunflint Trail on Saturday, June 2, and enjoy a Warbler Wander, Common Loon presentation, Minnesota Breeding Bird Atlas presentation, and area hike. Birders will also want to consider the Summer Bird Tour at Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge in Zimmerman on June 2. Come learn the songs of the summer residents, and tour the trails in search of these birds.

The following is a list of recent, significant sightings:
On May 24th, there was a report of a Scissor-Tailed Flycatcher just north of Kelliher in Beltrami County, but no further information was provided.
Eight Red-Throated Loons were in Duluth at the Lafayette Square viewing platform of Park Point on the 28th; six Whimbrel were also seen at the 22nd Street public access. On the same day, a Whimbrel was seen near Vermillion in Dakota County at the junction of Goodwin Avenue and 210th Street.
Joe Conley reported a Common Gallinule at the Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge in Sherburne County on the 26th. It was near the water control structure at Big Bluestem Pool.
A few Chestnut-Collared Longspurs were at the Felton Prairie in Clay County on the 26th, including a female on a nest.
And Kim Eckert found Blue Grosbeaks at Blue Mounds State Park in Rock County on the 27th.
