Lake Superior's
Chequamegon Bay Fishing report 7.6.10

* LAKE SUPERIOR:  Surface temps out in the main lake are approching the high 60's in some areas. Anglers are switching over to summer Lake Trout tactics and areas, altho there still have been a few coho reports coming in from certain areas. In the Islands  fish are moving off the first primary breaks and deeper, mainly Lakers, with a few Browns and Splake thrown in. Plain spoons and deep diving cranks are catching fish. Watch water temps, find the cool stuff and you may catch fish up shallow. On the Flats, S. Channell and Outer island areas magnum sized spoons,  standard dodger combos, and larger stickbaits fished deep on riggers, dipsies, leadcore or copper are all producing. Watch for nets, they will eat up your gear!  Fishing has been decent, overall. Like always, if you have not caught something in an hour or so, pull your gear and head to another spot. Targer 60-120 feet for Lakers, 20-60 for other trout and salmon species. Some days suspended over deeper water, some days right on the bottom. Good luck out there.  Don't forget to stop in and see some of the great local baits and tactics we use for trolling on the big lake. We have the best selection of the catching-est baits around, and in stock just for you! Come take a look! (Try the new 1OZ PK Flutterfish for BIG lakers!) Please remember, keep enough fish for supper, and let the rest go for another day, or another angler. Fish grow really slow in Lake Superior.

*Walleye and Northern reports in the bay have been OK. Most fish are spread out now on weededges, deeper flats, and structure throughout the bay. Troll crankbaits, and crawler harnesses in and around the newly emergent weed growth, and fish high in the water column towards dusk.  Mayflies are now hatching, so be prepared to downsize, and work a little later in the day for bites.

*Smallmouth Bass are spreading out to their summer structures all around the bay. A few still hanging around in the sloughs, but the bulk of the fish are spreading out on deeper structure around the bay! Run and gun, covering water, till you find a pod of fish on breaks, weed edges, rock/sand transitions, and any other piece of cover on the bay, any little thing could hold fish. There has been a good bite right off the boat ramp in Washburn this week. We have a fine selection of the hottest Bass catching baits in stock now.  Try heavy spinnerbaits, carolina rigs, deep diving cranks, and lindy rigs when they are turned off. Try topwaters first and last light of the day! REMEMBER, The most centrally located boat ramp for all the best summer and fall bass spots is at Washburn, come check it out, we can show you the spots to try!

* INLAND LAKES  are fishing great. Summer patterns are setting up.. Look a little deeper than you may be used to fishing! Primary breaks, wood, and rock in 12-24 feet of water has been producing. Muskie hunters reporting seeing good numbers of fish seen, Stable weather will improve the bite.  The HEX hatch has started on some of the local trout streams.
