and ends after Sunday, Oct. 18, 2009.  This gun season will take place in ?Herd Control? and ?CWD? units only, which make up approximately half of the units in the state.  See the deer season structure map in the deer regulations booklet or online for unit designations: http://dnr.wi.gov/org/land/wildlife/HUNT/DEER/dmu.htm.

The following information provides some answers to some frequently asked questions about the October 4-day antlerless hunt:

For ?Herd Control? (shaded units on map) and ?CWD? (cross-hatched units on map) units
Only the harvest of antlerless deer is permitted by both licensed gun and archery deer hunters during this 4-day period per unfilled, valid deer carcass tag.
All hunters, except waterfowl hunters, must meet blaze orange clothing requirements (page 21 in 2009 Wisconsin Deer Hunting Regulations booklet) during deer hunting hours within these units.
Antlerless gun hunt is open to all private and public lands, unless indicated otherwise by property owner or land manager.  This season will not be open on state park lands, except for certain state parks within CWD units that require free access permits.
Buck authorization stickers may be earned in CWD units during the 4-day hunt upon registration of antlerless deer at the deer registration station. However, buck authorization stickers may not be used to harvest or tag a buck until other seasons are open.
Hunters as young as 10 years of age may participate under the new Mentored Hunting Law.  Details on the new mentored hunting program can be found on the DNR website: http://dnr.wi.gov/org/land/wildlife/hunt/mentor.htm
