Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney, who has raised an estimated $20 million so far in his bid for the White House, continued yesterday in Indiana to explain away his past history as a hunter, his support of the Second Amendment and membership to the NRA.

Previously, I had reported that Romney, in a speech in Keene, New Hampshire, told attendees that he was a lifelong hunter and supported gun ownership. A campaign spokesman later clarified that Romney had really only been hunting twice; once as a 15-year old and once last year.

In Indiana yesterday, Romney once again tackled the task of attempting to explain his past.

“I’m not a big-game hunter. I’ve made that very clear,” he said. “I’ve always been a rodent and rabbit hunter. Small varmints, if you will. I began when I was 15 or so and I have hunted those kinds of varmints since then. More than two times.”

So which is it? Twice, three times or always been a hunter? To me this is a sure sign of an inexperienced campaign. They better get their stories straight or the scrutiny of the voter, the press and bloggers will tear him to shreds.
