Minnesota Birding Report October 3
In general, October offers a wonderful opportunity to see the migration of birds of prey along Hawk Ridge in Duluth. This location is an excellent vantage point for birders wanting to see sharp-shinned and broad-winged hawks, peregrine falcons, and other raptors.
The following is a list of recent, significant sightings:
The Rock Wren originally seen September 19 was still at the Grand Marais campground in Cook County on September 27. It was again along the lake shore near the yellow maintenance garages.
Two Red-Throated Loons flew past the Hawk Ridge overlook in Duluth on September 27.
New southbound migrants reported this past week include Tundra Swan, White-Winged Scoter, Surf Scoter, Long-Tailed Duck, Great Black-Backed Gull, and Thayer’s Gull.
