Preference system yields better odds in turkey permit drawing

Every year since 1983, when Wisconsin gave out 1,200 spring turkey permits, hunters have waited anxiously to see if they were selected and could pursue this large game bird.

While the number of applicants no longer exceeds the number of permits available, some hunters still do not receive permits because applicants were too selective in asking for a particular zone and an early hunting period.
