Your Heart Won't Be The Only Thing Pounding

The Annual Custer State Park Buffalo Roundup
It's a warm fall day and the autumn sun is rising over the prairies of South Dakota. In the distance, you hear a faint rumble. As the sun rises higher in the sky the rumble gets louder and you begin to feel the thunder as 1,500 buffalo crest the hill. The Annual Custer State Park Buffalo Roundup in South Dakota is an earth shaking experience that you have to see to believe!

October 1, 2007 will mark the 41st Annual Buffalo Roundup where cowboys and park employees saddle up on horseback to corral the park's roaming buffalo.

Buffalo Roundup and Arts Festival
The roundup is the culminating event of a weekend full of western adventure in Custer State Park. The Buffalo Roundup Arts Festival runs September 29 - October 1. All weekend long, visitors can purchase fine arts and crafts made in South Dakota, enjoy a chili cook-off and enjoy free live entertainment like Native American dancing and old time fiddling. Most of the weekend activities, including the Buffalo Roundup, are free. However, you do need to pay a small state park entrance fee to get to the activities.

Beyond the Buffalo Roundup
Custer State Park, the second largest state park in the country, has plenty to offer visitors of all ages. Tucked among the towering pines and granite spires of the Black Hills, the park offers incredible scenery, rugged hiking trails and unique adventure getaways.
