SNOWMOBILE & ATV TRAIL REPORT... 12/30/09

Price County snowmobile trails are open and reported in good early winter condition. The trails have a good base but some areas need more snow. Most trails are groomed; however, some areas that have soft swamps are not. Lake trails that are safe for travel have been marked. Use caution as lakes are rough and some still have slush. There is only light snow in the forecast for this week.

A new trail just opened connecting Trail #80 north of Catawba to Trail #102 at Three Mile Corner. Use caution as at this time there currently are some rough spots due to lack of snow.

Corridor trail 21, also known as trail 80, north of Lugerville is closed until mid-January 2010 while culverts are being replaced. Two culverts are out north of the Doc Frye Trail sign. The reroute options are Trail 121/141 east to Solberg or north to Fifield, or into Phillips. Warning signs are posted and the trail will be blocked off until the project is complete. This is a Plum Creek project.

There is a caution area east of Catawba on trail 181 both east and west of Intersection 100 at trail 80 as logging is taking place at this time.

Some private land may remain closed through the late bow season which ends Jan. 3. Please respect our land owners; without them we would not have trails.

ATV use is allowed on the Flambeau Trail System, located in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest, and the Georgetown Trail, located west of Phillips in the Price County Forest, through March 14. In the Prentice area, the Pine Line Rail Trail, Corridor trail 23 (also know as trail 102), and a connecting trail to Timm?s Hill, Wisconsin?s highest geographical point, are also open to ATV use along with a few miles of town roads and county snowmobile trails in the Prentice area which allow access to lodging, gas and restaurants.
