2007 WO South Dakota Pheasant Hunt
« on: November 12, 2007, 11:56:15 AM »

We were lucky enough to be able to travel to South Dakota again this year, to have the most successful Pheasant hunt ever. We left Central Wisconsin on Wed. the 7th, and hunted on the 8th, 9th and 10th. of Nov.
There were five of us, family and friends of WO. It was especially enjoyable for me because my youngest daughter, her husband and their Lab Thunder were able to go this time. My youngest daughter has become quite a crack shot on Pheasants. I hunted over my eldest daughters dog Daisy the Springer Spaniel. She is just a two year old Springer and she did fantastic!
We also had a couple of hunters that we met in the field, join us the last day of the hunt.

It seems that every year we have gone to South Dakota, we have said that you just can't top this year, it's the best year ever. Well this year was phenomenal, there were more Pheasants this year than I have ever seen before. You just have to see it to believe it, it's something you should experience if you love to bird hunt.

The Weather could not have been better on the 8th and 9th, but it was a bit warm for the 10th, but it really didn't matter because we had our limit by 1pm every day.

We hunted in unharvested Milo strips mostly, and some corn fields. The birds were plentiful in both areas. Each drive resulted in seeing 100's of birds, just fantastic habitat. The Milo and corn fields were in close proximity to CRP land, and the Pheasants would fly back and forth between the habitat all day long.
We are looking forward to returning next year, I'm sure it will the best year ever!
