Group wants DNR to suspend next week's antlerless deer hunt
« on: December 04, 2009, 07:05:27 PM »
A group of mostly republican state lawmakers wants the DNR to suspend next week's antlerless deer hunt.

The 22 lawmakers made their request in a letter to the Wisconsin Natural Resources board. It says the move would help protect a depleted deer population.

Last month's nine day deer gun season was one of the poorest harvests in years. Late Friday afternoon, the DNR also tabled its proposal for a 16 day deer hunt season next year.

The department wants to analyze data from the recent nine day hunt. Preliminary figures show hunters killed fewer than 200,000 deer.

Couldn't agree more.
The DNR has all but destroyed the allure and meaning behind the pursuit of Wisconsins most prized game animal.
I've been hunting whitetails for 36 years and never thought there would come a day when you could legally shoot more deer than rabbits.
For a very long time people in Wisconsin have enjoyed and coexisted with deer, now the DNR just wants them GONE.
