A series of seven public hearings will be held throughout the state between August 13 and August 31 to gather public input on proposed changes in Deer Management Unit (DMU) population goals.  The Natural Resources Board (NRB) and Department of Natural Resources (DNR) would like input on 16 DMUs being considered for goal changes.  Any changes in DMU goals would not go into effect until the 2010 deer hunting season.

A complete list of hearing dates and locations can be found on the DNR's Public Hearings calendar: http://dnr.wi.gov/org/caer/ce/news/hearmeet.html#dmu

For more information on which DMUs have proposed goal changes, the DMU Review process, and a brief video announcing the public hearings, visit the following link on the DNR website: http://dnr.wi.gov/org/land/wildlife/hunt/deer/review.htm.  If you are unable to attend a hearing in person, but would like to comment on proposed goal changes, an online survey link will be available from this web page beginning August 15 and will be active through the end of August.

Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Wildlife Health Update

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has developed a draft five-year plan for managing Chronic Wasting Disease in Wisconsin's wild deer herd.  At its August 12th meeting in Hayward, the Natural Resources Board will be taking action on this plan.  The draft of the plan is available on the DNR's website here:
