Chetek Wi. Chain of Lakes Updated 12.40.07

Burrr, as the North wind blows across the Chetek chain of lakes in early November.  I've seen a few die hard fishermen out on the Chetek chain  giving it their all before the hard water season is upon us
.
The Walleyes are being taken by fishermen while drifting over some of the  underwater points through out the chain.  Bait of choice seems to be a fat head minnow on the end of brown and orange1/4oz.fuzzy grub. Fishermen have been doing better when they can vertical jig through the schools of fish hanging on the points.

The Northerns have been active in the bays and shallow sand points with some type of green vegetation on them on the Chain .The bays seem to be producing the numbers of fish and the points are producing the better size fish.  Fishermen have been having good luck on surface baits, spinner baits, and some shallow running rapalas.  A little Voo-doo game fish attractant won't hurt either, it will help cover up the human scent that is on baits.  Fishermen have been having some luck while live bait fishing, too.

The Bass fishing has been good on the  chain.  Walleye fishermen have been catching them while they fish the underwater points.  Also give the shallow points a try in the early evening hours  after they have warmed up a little from the warmer mid-day air.

The Bluegill fishing has been spotty for the fishermen .One day they are in, next day they are not there.  Fishermen seem to be able to do alright drifting for them occasionally running into a school of them.  Waxies seem to be working the best for fishermen.

The Crappie action has been good for the fishermen doing a lot of drifting and jigging off the bottom with a small crappie jig and minnow.  Again fishermen are doing better when vertical jigging.  Some fishermen have been getting some nice ones off the public pier by the Pokegama lake bridge.

The fishing below the power dam in Chetek has been good also for fishermen. Walleyes and northerns are being caught quite regularly.

Good luck to all fishermen, please be careful while boating in this colder weather.
