•   Capital Springs State Recreation Area, Madison, (608) 224-3604 - Harvest Moon Feast and Festival. The festival, free to all, includes a stroll on our illuminated trail under the Harvest moon; interpretive presentations on Wisconsin’s owls, insects, trees, bats and mammals; stargazing with the University of Wisconsin’s "Universe in the Park," bluebrass music, and s’mores around a "howlin’ campfire." Chili dinner, $10/adult, $5/child, under 5 free with reservations by Sept 24; $12/adult, $6/child, under 5 free at the door. Proceeds go towards the recreation and educational programs at the Lussier Family Heritage Center, Capital City State Trail, and Capital Springs Recreation Area. Sponsored by Friends of Capital Springs Recreation Area. Lussier Family Heritage Center. 6:30-9 p.m.; dinner 6-7:30 p.m.

•   Black River State Forest, Black R. Falls, (715) 284-1430 - Property Dedication. Join the DNR and Friends of the Black River for ceremony dedicating the newly acquired 50-acre parcel along the upper Black River. There will be a ribbon cutting ceremony and guided hikes of the property. West end of High Bank Road, off County Highway K, in the northwest section of the state forest. 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
•   Copper Falls State Park, Mellen, (715) 274-5123 - Annual Arts and Crafts Day. Local artists will have their work on display. Complimentary coffee, apple cider, and cookies will be available. Sponsored by Friends of Copper Falls State Park.
•   Governor Thompson State Park, Crivitz, (715) 757-3979 - National Public Lands Day. Join us in America's largest hands-on volunteer effort to clean up public lands. Volunteers will be cleaning trail, pruning branches, and mapping invasive species. Park Office, N10008 Paust Lane, Crivitz. 9 a.m.
•   Kettle Moraine State Forest—Northern Unit, Campbellsport, (920) 533-8322 - Exploring Nature: Head South! Winter is coming! The air is colder and the leaves are falling! For many birds it is time to head south. Discover how birds know when to leave and where to go. This program is best for families/groups with children between the ages of 5 and 12 years. Ice Age Visitor Center. 9:30-11 a.m.
•   Kohler-Andrae State Park, Sheboygan, (920) 451-4080 - Searching for Hidden Treasures: Geocaching. Brian Geoffrey of Wisconsin Geocaching Association will show how to use a hand-held global positioning system (GPS) device and compass and how to read a topographic map. Then it's off in search of hidden treasures at selected geocache locations. Program is best for adults and children over the age of 10 years. No pets allowed. Sanderling Nature Center. 3 p.m. Wild Edible and Medicinal Plants. Hike with John Johnston to search for the wild edible and medicinal plants found at Kohler-Andrae. He will share tips on using these unique and interesting plants. Wear comfortable shoes. The hike lasts about an hour. Meet at camp host site. 2 p.m.
•   Potawatomi State Park, Sturgeon Bay, (920) 746-2890 - Invasive Honeysuckle Control Day. Volunteer opportunity in coordination with the Door County Invasive Species Team. Help control invasive honeysuckle while preserving rare species and the natural landscape of Potawatomi State Park. Most supplies/equipment provided. Bring your own water, snacks, sunscreen, insect repellent, etc. Event held as the result of grant funding through the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Picnic Shelter. 9 a.m.
•   Rib Mountain State Park, Wausau, Granite Peak Ski Area, (715) 845-2846 - Chair Lift Rides. Ride up Rib Mountain, down, or both ways for unique views of the fall color.
•   Richard Bong State Recreation Area, Kansasville, (262) 878-5600 - Crane Watch. Witness the wonderful spectacle of sandhill cranes coming into the marsh to roost. Delight in the sights and sounds of this amazing evening ritual. Observation Platform. 6-7 p.m.
•   Wyalusing State Park, Bagley, (608) 996-2261 - Spirits of Wyalusing Past. Meet characters from Wyalusing’s illustrious history along a luminary lit trail. Sponsored by Friends of Wyalusing. Peterson Shelter. 7 p.m.

•   Council Grounds State Park, Merrill, (715) 536-8773 - Candlelight Walk. Walk up to 2.5 miles among hundreds of candles at Council Grounds State Park. Start at the entrance of the park. 7-10 p.m.
•   Richard Bong State Recreation Area, Kansasville, (262) 878-5600 - Wolf Lake Trail Run/Hike. Enjoy a beautiful 3.8-mile fall hike or run around World Lake and benefit the park at the same time. All pre-registrants receive a long-sleeved t-shirt. There will be door prizes, music and refreshments. Fee is $18/person before September 30 and $20 the day of the event. A family fee of $50 with preregistration only. Sponsored by Bong Naturalist Association. Beach. 8:30-9:30 a.m. packet pick up/registration, 10 a.m. - noon run/hike

•   Richard Bong State Recreation Area, Kansasville, (262) 878-5600 - Adopt A Highway. Join us to clean up the highway in front of the park. All equipment provided. You must be at least 12 years old to participate. You will not need a park sticker for this event. Visitor Center. 5:30-6:30 p.m.

•   Richard Bong State Recreation Area, Kansasville, (262) 878-5600 - Fall Woodcarving Workshop. Beginning or experienced carvers may attend this ten-week carving course taught by Joyce Levandowski. You will be carving a Killdeer. Please bring a Moto-tool if you have one. Please pre-register and pre-pay by calling (262) 878-5600. Fee is $55. Sponsored by Bong Naturalist Association, www.bongnaturalistassociation.org. Visitor Center but be prepared to drive. 1-3 p.m.

•   Kettle Moraine State Forest—Northern Unit, Campbellsport, (920) 533-8322 - Nature Storytime: Leaves of Many Colors. Join us as we wander the autumn woods to find as many different colored leaves as we can. We will also solve the mystery of why trees drop their leaves in fall. This hour of nature fun awaits 3- to 6-year-olds with accompanying adults. Ice Age Visitor Center. 9:30-10:30 a.m.
