Lake Superior's Chequamegon Bay Fishing report 6.2.10

* LAKE SUPERIOR: Still a few Coho being caught out over the deeper water, high to mid depth in the water column north of Washburn. A few other species in the mix too, like a King, Brown, or Splake, but this fishing is winding down, and most anglers are switching over to summer Lake Trout tactics and areas. In the Islands  fish are moving deeper off the first primary breaks and deeper, mainly Lakers, with a few Browns and Splake thrown in. Plain spoons and deep diving cranks are catching fish. On the Flats, S. Channell and Outer island areas magnum sized spoons,  standard dodger combos, and larger stickbaits fished deep on riggers, dipsies, leadcore or copper are all producing. Watch for nets, they will eat up your gear!  Fishing has been spotty, good one day, slow for a couple. Like always, if you have not caught something in an hour or so, pull your gear and head to another spot. There are fish to be caught, but they are not always easy! Good luck out there.  Don't forget to stop in and see some of the great local baits and tactics we use for trolling on the big lake. We have the best selection of the catching-est baits around! (Try the new 1OZ PK Flutterfish for BIG lakers!)

*Walleye and Northern reports in the bay have been OK. The head of the bay over towards, and even north of Washburn, has been producing. Slow reports from the Kakagon and Bad.

*Smallmouth Bass are up in the Sand Cut and Kakagon sloughs, fish 4-6 feet of water, Fishing can be incredible one day, so-so the next. Be prepared to tone down and finesse the fish if they are off. Bassing has been good on jerkbaits, lipless rattlers, swimbaits, and more and more on slowly fished plastics. We have a fine selection of the hottest Bass catching baits in stock now.

* INLAND LAKES  are fishing great. Crappie are done spawning on some lakes, and Gills are doin it! Walleye and Northern are active in the mid-depths. Look a little deeper than you may be used to fishing! Primary breaks, wood, and rock in 12-24 feet of water has been producing. Largemouth Bass are about done spawning on most waters, some still shallow, some deep. Muskie hunters this weekend reported seeing good numbers of fish, getting them to eat was another matter. They will with time!
