Lake Superior's Chequamegon Bay Fishing report 4.29.10

* LAKE SUPERIOR: WIND! Seems every other day guys are getting blown off the lake, but that's spring! Boats are out all over now.  Coho, Browns, Splake, Steelhead, and the occaisional big Laker are the early season targets. Fishing has been good with planer boards and stickbaits  out over deeper water, high in the water column. Some fish are moving a touch deeper off the first primary breaks as well. Flasher/fly combos have been producing some coho. A few guys fishing smaller spoons like Flashbacks and Humpys or Ladyslippers, and doing well on these too.  Find the warmest water available, and you'll find the fish.

A few folks have been out to the traditional lake trout grounds, fishing deep with riggers and finding some lake trout out deep as well. Shorecasters are still catching a few fish on PK's and Cleos off the rivermouths.

Walleye and Northern reports in the bay are getting better, fish are post spawn, and starting to bite OK. The head of the bay over towards Washburn, and the Sloughs have been producing. Bass are already in the sloughs, waiting for the weekend, it will be a good opener!

*STEELHEAD fishing has been spotty. Some nice fish being caught, but lack of rain is making run prediction hard. Best just to spend your time on the river, put on the miles and work the water, and be there when a fresh pod of fish rolls thru. Warmer temps and a soaking rain will get more fish in our creeks.

* INLAND LAKES  are way ahead of schedule. Panfish are already moving shallow on some lakes. Walleye and northern are done spawning on some lakes too. Panfish bite will remain good thru gamefish opener, when the post spawn bite should be in full swing. Look for fish a little deeper than you may be used to on an opening weekend.

* We are going full steam ahead with Trolling, Lakers and mixed bag Trout and Salmon. Smallie, Walleye and Northern fishing is set for the spring peak right now! Fishing is currently excellent so give us a call and let's get out there!
