2013 Burlington Invitational Results

April 25-28, 2013 ? Burlington Conservation Club, Burlington WI ? Seven years ago, the Burlington Conservation Club invited several youth trap shooting programs to compete in a season-opening tournament to better prepare the young athletes for upcoming competitions in the state of Wisconsin. Several local programs came to compete with the upstart local BHS Demons Shooting Team; there were 120 shooters that participated the event?s first year.

Over the last few years many things have changed in the world of youth shooting sports and the rapid expansion of the Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) has broadened opportunities for young shooters to compete with their peers. Last season, the Burlington Invitational drew almost 550 athletes over three days with the hometown team coming out on top with a 470 of 500 score.

The Burlington Invitational continued to grow in 2013 and with the assistance of the Midway USA Foundation?s Scholastic Shooting Trust who supported the event again this year with contributions into qualifying team?s endowment accounts, the competition grew to over 780 shooters from 41 different youth programs in six states. For many of the teams and young athletes this was their first major competition.

Over four solid days of shooting at the 4-trap club just East of Burlington, 41 teams from six states brought over 160 squads of 5-shooters to try to unseat the defending champion home team. For the second straight year, the Carroll County Long Spurs came up in second place with a score of 465 of 500 and were followed by the Berlin Target Terminators at 460.

Bringing home the gold for the third consecutive year was the hometown BHS Demons #1 with Alexa McCarthy 95, Myles Walker 97, Cody Schilz 91, Jordan Hintz 97 and Christian Jensen 97 breaking a total of 477 out of 500 targets.

Tyler Lepple of Beaver Dam broke 98 and brought home the boys high school gold along with Alexa McCarthy who scored a 95 to top the high school ladies. Tyler Thiede of Sauk Prairie was top intermediate (grades 5-8) Boy with a 93 along with Courtney Uhlenhake of Burlington who paced the young ladies with an 84.

Burlington graduate Josh Criscimagna now attending UW Platteville took the collegiate gold with a 97.

In the 25-bird international wobble trap event, the Carroll County Long Spurs & Hartford Conservation & Gun Club Youth Trap Team tied with 48 of 75 targets. The top-three scores from each team compiled results for this event.

The BHS Demons won the prestigious high over all award for combination of the top-five trap scores and top three wobble trap scores added together.

At the end of the event, each of the 41 teams were put into a raffle for a Winchester SX3 Semi-automatic shotgun and the winner was CAM/Anita High School from Anita, Iowa.

The event was the largest ever held at the Burlington Conservation Club with over 83,000 competitive targets thrown plus countless thousands additional through the Crazy Quail live bird simulator, which was on hand for the weekend. With the strict safety regulations of the Burlington Conservation Club following SCTP guidelines there was not a single incident.

Hundreds of hours of preparation and dozens of volunteers dedicated themselves to benefit youth shooting sports and the proper safe use of firearms, teamwork and sportsmanship. The Burlington Conservation Club would like to thank all the club members, parents, coaches and young athletes for helping be a part of the seventh annual Burlington Invitational.
