Ashland Chequamegon Bay Lake Superior

Ashland Chequamegon Bay Lake Superior

Smallmouth fishing has been good on Chequamegon Bay with most fish moving into the post-spawn phase although there are some stragglers still in shallow. Kakagon Sloughs and Sand Cut are still producing but the fish have moved into deeper water. The rock pile area has been seeing fishing pressure with successful anglers covering as much water as possible and covering as many presentations as possible. Walleye bite has been fair with people taking fish both trolling and casting from shore. However, the bite has been on-again, off-again, so patience and persistence has been key and will remain so as temperatures warm. Catches have been coming on everything from trolled stick baits and crawlers to jigging leeches. Shore anglers seem to be taking northern pike on spoons or crank baits. In the deeper water, lake trout action has been heating up, with the flats, south channel and island structure all producing. The fish seem to be all over the water column so it is a good idea to run lines at a variety of depths and pay attention to electronics for clues to the location of suspended fish. Bigger fish seem to be coming from deeper water.

Ashland Chequamegon Bay Lake Superior  8.5.13

Fishing Guide Roger LaPenter from Anglers All, (715)-682-5754, http://www.anglersallwisconsin.com Reports: The fishing continues to be good on both the big blue Lake Superior and the Inland Lakes. Bass fishing on the big lake has been great on flies. Trolling for Trout and Salmon has been good in the Shallows and Deep Water and all the way out to Outer Island. For trolling you should start early in the morning on the first drops then working to deeper water as the sun gets higher in the sky. Most Anglers are using stickbaits, spoons, bait flies and spin-n-glows. Fish have been caught in 20 feet of water to 100 feet of water depending on water temps that given day. There has been Northern activity along the Ashland Shoreline. Anglers are having good luck on the Inlands with Bass, Northern and Pan Fish all biting. The Bass and Pan Fish are very active. Anglers are having good luck fishing for Smallies in the deeper water near the tip of Long Island, the Rock Pile and the back of the Breakwall. Inland Fishing has been good with a lot of fish in 10 to 15 feet of water…You might have good luck in shady areas and around docks on the shoreline.

~ Fishing Guide Nate Baron from River Rock Inn and Bait Shop, 715-682-3232 http://riverrockinn.net Reports: The recent cold fronts & cooler evenings has slowed fishing down somewhat, but expect it to improve as it becomes stable. Walleyes are being caught on the deeper edges of the weed beds at the head of the bay in the evenings. Limits of Whitefish and an occasional trout are being caught off of the Washburn shoreline vertical jigging spoons in 30-50 FOW. Smallmouth bass fishing has been good this past week with most anglers now finding them out in the deeper weedbeds . Lake trout and Salmon fishing has been really good this past week. Near shore trolling along the Islands in 25-50 FOW with downriggers and spoons is still producing some great fishing. Outer Island, Cat Island and the out lying reefs are all producing some large Lakers on downriggers with Flashers, Spin and glows, Howie Flies and Spoons in 100-175 FOW. Musky activity on the area’s Inland Lakes has slowed down some with recent cold fronts and cooler temperatures. Topwater baits at dawn and dusk have been producing some fish, along with casting bucktails and Jerkbaits adjacent to the deeper weed edges during the day. Good luck fishing and tight lines to all !
