Root River Fishing Report for April 27, 2009Water and flow conditions
This weekends rains have swollen the river to flood levels and the river is still rising...and with the next two days predicted rains it could be weeks before the river is back in fishable condition. Clarity is similar to that of chocolate milk.
For up to date river conditions, check out the USGS web site of stream flow conditions [exit DNR] in Wisconsin. Just click on the river that you want to see.
Fishing ReportWith the extreme high water most fish are holding in the slack water and eddies up against shore. About the only area on the river that has seen any action has been the Horlick dam. The main pool below the dam and the bridge pilings have been holding fish...a few steelhead and lots of white suckers. Bright flies are key, with visibility as poor as it is, actual fly pattern matters little, just getting them to actually see it the most important thing. Water temps have dropped to 43 degrees.
