Whitetail Deer / Re: CWD board recommendations
« on: January 14, 2008, 06:40:47 PM »
Its sad to see the CWD laws get worse instead of better... Simply put, killing huge numbers of deer is in no way going to stop or even slow the spread of CWD.
This is simply just killing... And killing more than just deer, its killing our traditions, its killing our desire to pursue... Its just sad.
I don't understand how a group of individules that are supposed to represent the public can allow the the DNR to even suggest we should do such horrible acts to our wildlife and hunting heritage. Killing all the deer has nothing to do with CWD. There are hidden agendas. Scientific fact has proven Wisconsin is not taking the right coarse of action. Hunters don't want them ruining our state. But yet they blindly move forward with there War against whitetails...

Some one should of stood up and punched Crossly in the nose.

As far as no public comments, or participation... WE WERE TOLD WE WOULD NOT BE ALOUD TO SPEAK IF WE SHOWED UP.

Whitetail Deer / Last day reflections...
« on: January 06, 2008, 04:04:46 PM »
I hear allot of talk about hunters waiting for the cold weather to go hunting...  Apparently a lot of folks think in winter you need to hunt in the bitter cold to get movement... But here it is last day and its pretty warm...  I have always felt that there are advantages as to why to hunt every day, and that if hunters get out of certain routines of always hunting the same way, they can start to take advantage of whats going on around them...

Its pretty warm here in S.E. Wisconsin, fog is rising off the ground blocking vision and the snow is soft and quiet as it melts. Perfect day for some bedding area invasions.

I have lost allot of my old hunting places, seems everybody, even friends get wired about big bucks. Especially when you out do them on there own ground. Hunting big bucks really teaches you who your true friends are.. Seems some people are only happy when they are shooting "your" bucks. This year I did not draw any out of state tags. I concentrated mainly on hunting the hill country to work on our next DVD. The area of public near my home has been devastated by the DNR's war on whitetails. As a result, I went my 1st year in over 20 without taking a good buck.

I have been very fortunate in meeting lots of great people on these forums.  Many offers come in from folks who ask me if I would like to come to there ground and hunt with them. I really appreciate the friendships that I have made on the forum the last few years. You Guys treat me better than friends I have had most my life.

I went over to one of my "new" friends ( been asked not to post who he is)ground for a last minute, last chance hunt.
As expected, no big bucks spotted.. But I could use another big doe, and my friends ground has an abundance...

Whitetail Deer / Pic's from todays video footage
« on: December 30, 2007, 10:34:59 PM »
Dans ultimate snow camo LOL

Noon today...

I found it interesting that this deer bedded right in this spot almost within bow rang of a tower stand... I filmed her until she bedded and slipped down out of site.

Feeding on alfalpha...

Now here is a very interesting white buck I have been watching since he was a fawn.
He lives on a freinds farm that I hunt, and proves to me how elusive these bucks can be. I have seen him once or twice a year since he was a fawn. Never more than twice in the same year...This is the 1st time I have captured him on film.  He was a spike at age 1 1/2... He was a 120 class 10 point at 2 1/2.. In this picture he is 3 1/2 and this is the 1st time I have seen him all season... He has already shed his antlers, along with one of the other younger bucks that is with him, there is a
2 1/2 year old farther right of him and the other shed buck that still has his antlers, but this has been typical of the bucks I have been seeing around S.E. Wisc. about 2 out of 3 have already shed.

Here is the one that still has antlers:

Whitetail Deer / Safety 1st...
« on: November 20, 2007, 05:14:26 PM »
I have a freind named Bernie, He is my Mom's 77 (I think) year old neighbor, who is always hanging around at Ma's asking questions about hunting. I took him hunting a few times in the last couple years... He is a pretty cool dude. Well he came over before rut and said he was going up to Black river falls to bowhunt and was asking some advice as well as just wanting to talk hunting. I asked him about his safety harness cause he uses one of those old one strap deals that will kill ya if you fall... I told him about the vest that Whitetail Addictions gave me and took him out by the truck and showed it to him... After hearing they were over $100. he said he could not afford it on his retirement budget... I asked him what his life was worth... That was the last thing I said to him... I was notified he fell out of his stand and his harness failed. He broke 5 ribs and punctured one lung. It took 1 1/2 hours before any body came looking for him.... He is in the hospital in Black river, he has been in Intensive care for about two weeks now... Those words I last told him keep ringing in my ears....
This is the second good friend who was severly injured this year from a treestand fall.
PLEASE be safe out there!

General Discussion / Re: Wisconsin Hunters urged to target wild pigs
« on: November 20, 2007, 05:10:51 PM »
In the DNR rule book it says you MUST have a valid small game license or be archery hunting in order to kill wild pigs in Wisconsin. You cannot shoot them if you just have a gun deer license or they will fine you.
The only reason I bring this point up, is becuase there news release makles it sound like they want you to shoot them on site...

Whitetail Deer / Re: notes from our most current CWD meeting
« on: September 29, 2007, 01:47:56 PM »
I think all of us agree that removing the infections prions from the soil is impossible and that will have a huge impact on our dicision making process. Fewer deer and infected soils don't help anybody.

Its good to hear someone with a rational perspective on CWD is participating in these meetings.

Thanks for the update Rancid. I would REALLY like to see Dr. Kroll speak his opinoins on CWD and Wisconsins tactics to control it...

I notice that it was never discussed how CWD is going to be eradicated from Wisconsins soil by killing lots of deer.

Whitetail Deer / Re: Chronic wasting disease update
« on: September 21, 2007, 08:49:22 PM »
Crossly says he aims to "eradicate CWD" BUT HIS PLAN DOESN'T INCLUDE KILLING ALL THE DEER. His plan is too get to the 5 per square mile mark.Right? And he avoids the question about how he plans to get it out of the soil.
It just seems hilarius that all these advisory teams and media personel never ask about those things.
There is NO rational way to remove CWD from the soil. New evidence shows it actually increases potency in soil with time   You could in theory kill every deer to save them from getting CWD, but CWD would still be here in our soil. So what have we really accomplished? At least by keeping a high deer density, the genetically strong have the chance to keep producing more genetically strong deer. In Nature, the strong survive, the week parish. Its natures way of always getting better... The correct and feasable thing to do with a disease like this that can't be stopped and is lowering the population by killing a percentage of the deer is to KILL LESS DEER!!! Not more! It is insane to think we should kill all the deer, to save the deer from being killed.
