Southern Lake Michigan Fishing Report: June 17, 2010

Kenosha Co.
Brown trout are finally starting to be caught in the harbor, with early morning hours being the best. Spoons (silver/chartreuse) fished in the middle of the water column have peoduced, as well as white tubes. Fishing is still not what I would call "hot", but its certainly good enough to warrent a trip. Trolling bite remains good, with good coho numbers still being caught. Chinook and rainbow are starting to make up a larger portion of catches, with some very quality fish being brought in. Dodger/fly combos continue to produce. Lead core has also been producing great catches. Many fish have been located in the 50 ft range, although there are still some having good action out in the 100-120 ft range as well.

Racine Co.
Following a very slow period on the racine piers, fishing is now starting to pick up a bit. A few coho have been caught in the early morning hours. Browns are also starting to be caught with some regularity along with rainbows. Trout have been caught throughout the day. All fish recently have been caught on silver spoons fished in the top half of the water column. Trolling bite has also been good, with most good catches coming from 50 ft of water or less. Coho are still being caught in the best numbers, but chinook have been making up a larger percentage of fish, with many in the 14-22lb range now showing up in the same areas as the coho. Dodger/fly continues to produce, but spoons are starting to take a larger percentage of fish.

Milwaukee Co.
In Milwaukee trollers have been catching decent numbers of coho and chinooks, along with a few rainbows and lake trout. Orange dodgers coupled with blue or green flies have taken the majority of fish. The most consistent depths have been 110 to 150 feet of water. Overall, Milwaukee shore fishing remains slow but some coho and rainbows have been taken off McKinley pier. Live alewives fished on the bottom have produced the most.

Ozaukee Co.
There was light fishing pressure from the ramps, piers and harbor/shore and no fishing effort from Amsterdam ramp. There was action to report from the ramps and harbor/shore. The temperature was in the high 50?s, skies were cloudy with rain and there was a light wind to the south. Port Washington Ramp: The water at the ramp was blue green with moderate clarity and the temperature was 64? F. Chinook salmon, Coho salmon and rainbow trout were caught by anglers. Three of 4 boats interviewed caught at least 1 fish, and averaged 3.6 fish. The fish were caught between 85 and 105 feet of water, from 50 to 80 feet down with spoons on dipsy divers and downriggers. Port Washington Utility: The water in the area was blue green with moderate clarity. A carp was caught on carp bait shortly after noon. Port Washington Piers: The water off the lakeside was choppy, 60-62? F, blue green with moderate to good clarity. Ramp: The water at the ramp in the low 60?s, blue green with good clarity and there was light wave action.

Sheboygan Co.
