Washburn marina being prepped for next boating season

WASHBURN — As the ice thickens on Chequamegon Bay, the Washburn Harbor Commission is already preparing its marina for next spring's first boating season under city control.

Washburn Marina Manager Michelle Shrider reported to the commission Wednesday about her activity since the marina's former lessee, Superior Marine Services (SMS), vacated the premises in early November.

All of the former SMS employees who applied for positions under Shrider — five total workers — were hired to work for Shrider's city-directed management company, she said.

"I'm very happy about how that turned out," she said. After the meeting, Shrider said she has also hired outside help to round out her team.

Also remaining are questions about whether or not SMS should pay for over $11,000 in repairs to the marina's large travel lift.
