High School Trapshooting Returns to Southeast Wisconsin Returning for it's forth season of competition, the Southeastern Wisconsin Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) Conference has grown to over 600 athletes from thirteen local High Schools who will compete in a ten-week long season which will culminate at the Conference Championships on May 31 and June 1 at the Waukesha Gun Club. Milwaukee Lutheran High School is the latest school to join the conference.
The athletes are grouped into three classifications; Varsity, Junior Varsity and Intermediate based on their school grade and experience level. Every single athlete participates each week and shoots one round of 25 targets with the top-five scores each week comprising the team overall score.
Burlington picked right up where it left off in 2012 breaking 120 of 125 targets to narrowly defeat Westosha Central by just two targets. Dalton Karrow went clean to lead the Falcons with Brian Griffey and Nathan Miller missing just a single target. Clayton Deford of the Demons was also perfect while Jordan Hintz, Josh Grisham and Alexa McCarthy added 24?s.
Ryan Lipstreuer led the Wilmot Panthers over Lake Geneva Badger 116 to 94 with a perfect 25 with Steve Heelein adding 24 while Billy Ebbers led Badger with a 22.
Jefferson snuck past Union Grove 114 to 111 with Kevin Krause and Cole Mewis posting 24?s. Cole Sterk led the Broncos with 24.
Milwaukee Marquette was paced by Adam Coon?s 24 as the Hilltoppers edged past Muskego 114 to 107. Tyler Witt led the Warriors dropping just one target.
Waterford fell to the virtual score (average of other teams scores) of 108 breaking 102 against newcomer Milwaukee Lutheran who fielding a JV squad only this season. Sam Gultch and Sam Reinholz paced the Wolverines.
In the closest match of the week Cudahy and Oconomowoc tied at 100 with the Packers getting the nod on a 12-11 reverse score tiebreaker. Joe Chojnacki led the Packers and the Cooney paced by Morgan Simmons and Alana Nord.
Racine Lutheran broke 94 of 125 targets led by Tyler Vance?s 21 but fell to the virtual score of 109.
Winners in Junior Varsity were Waterford, Jefferson, Central, Wilmot and Muskego. Daniel Patterson of Milwaukee Lutheran had the top JV score of 24.
As the weather gets warmer the scores will climb higher and the competition will get tighter each week.
The Mission of the SEWI SCTP Conference is to instill in young people a respect for good sportsmanship, competitiveness, cooperation, teamwork, and high moral character through trapshooting competition.
The SE Wisconsin SCTP Conference was formed to create in young people a set of personal values and character traits such as fair play, compassionate understanding, individual responsibility, self-discipline, and personal commitment - qualities necessary to become successful and contributing members of society.
Competition is an important part of the Conference, but it is not the program?s underlying principle. The ?win-at-all-costs? philosophy has no place in the Conference. Striving to win while playing by the rules does. It is the DUTY of everyone involved - coaches, parents and participants - to be role models for team members to emulate, by upholding high moral and ethical standards of personal conduct.
Our Conference embraces and upholds all the rules, guidelines and standards of conduct; which are listed in the Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation?s SCTP Handbook, Coaches Guidelines, and its Sportsmanship Contract.
The safe responsible handling and use of firearms is the foundation of our organization. We believe that trapshooting is a lifetime sport that families can enjoy together and our Conference can bring communities together through interscholastic competition.
