Demons Dominate at SCTP State Shoot

The Burlington High School Demons Shooting Team once again came out on  top of the Wisconsin Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) State Trap  Shoot by taking first place in four of the five age categories at the  annual event held on Saturday June 16th at the Waukesha Gun Club.

Four-hundred ninety-one young athletes from twenty-five SCTP programs  from across Wisconsin came to give their best shot at the state title  and to qualify for the opportunity to go to the SCTP Nationals in  Sparta, IL next month. Each shooter shot four rounds of twenty-five  targets with the top-five scores from each team counting toward the  team total.

Proving the high level of competition for junior shooters in Wisconsin  is the fact that eighty-six of the participants broke ninety or more  targets, nearly twenty percent of the total of young athletes who took  part in the event.

The streak continues for the Burlington Varsity team who has won every  event dating back to the beginning of the 2011 season and made another  loud statement heading to the SCTP Nationals by breaking of 489 of a  possible 500 targets. The Demons were led by junior Myles Walker who  posted the only perfect score of the day and was joined on the podium  by Christian Jensen (98), Devon Stickrod, Terry Carr and Josh  Crisimagna who all carded 97?s. The defending SCTP National Champs  bested runner-up Beaver Dam by twenty-two targets and third place  Milwaukee Marquette by thirty-three targets. Demons shooters took  eight of the top sixteen places in the Varsity category all breaking  96 or more targets with Ethan Kerr (97) along with Jordan Hintz (96)  and Cody Schilz (96) near the top of leaderboard out of the 170  Varsity participants.

Not to be outdone, the Junior Varsity team of Alexa McCarthy (98),
Clayton Deford (96), Nolan Schenning (93), Melanie Uhlenhake (91) and  Daniel Santos (90) tallied 468 to easily take the first place award  over runner up Fond du Lac by twenty-three targets and Daniel Boone by  thirty-three.

Intermediate Advanced squad of Cody McCarthy, (96), Cullen Kruser  (94), Hunter Conrad (94), Austin Jensen (87) and Weston Uhlenhake (85)  totaled 457 to best the Sauk County Youth Shooting Team by twenty-two  clays. Westosha Central was third at 419.

The Golden Beavers of Beaver Dam took the top spot in Intermediate  Entry with a 429 over Waterford?s 404 and Marquette?s 392. Gavin  Clayton was the Demons top shooter with an 80.

The future of the Demons team is bright as the rookie squad of John  Kubiak (61), William McCarthy (57), Courtney Uhlenhake (56), Wyatt  Wilken (53) and Kalvin Johnson (53) broke 280 targets topping Central  and Wilmot?s Rookie squads.

Walker?s perfect score earned him the Varsity individual champion
trophy and is the first 100 by a Demon shooter this season so far.
Alexa McCarthy?s personal best of 98 earned her the Ladies champion  award. Clayton Deford brought home third place in Junior Varsity for  his 96 along with Cody McCarthy who won second in the Intermediate  Advanced category for his 96.

Over the next two weeks, the Demons will participate in several other  SCTP State events including Sporting Clays, Wobble Trap and Skeet as  it prepares for the upcoming SCTP Nationals held next month in Sparta,  IL., where the Demons Varsity team is hoping to repeat as National  Champions for the second consecutive year as well as the SCTP  International Championships held in Colorado Springs in August where  the Demons are reigning Double Trap champions.
