   Minocqua area fishing report 6.14.11

Crazy weather for the Northwoods.  Temps in the high 90's early in the week, cooling to lows in the 40's (even 36 degrees at launch in St. Germain this morning).

Most lake temps somewhere in the 60's.  Things really spread out with smallmouth bass, largemouth bass and bluegills bedding sporadically all over.  Once these fish have committed, they have stuck to their nest, others are still waiting for optimum water temps.

Walleye:  Good.  Action best around patches of green weed in 8-12' using redtailed chubs, x-large leeches.  Be prepared to move as fish spread out.  Work multiple patches to come up with good catches of fish 16-20".  Released several 21-25" fish (including Kurt Hinz"s with a 26"er).

Musky:  Good.  Bucktails by far best with smaller sized baits (Rizzo Whiz, #5 Mepps, 500 series Buchertails and Dream Catchers) catching the most.  Nice sized fish (40-45") mixed in with lots of action fish (34"-36') with a 53 1/2", 31#8oz caught on a Husky Jerk this morning.

Bluegills:  Good.
Weather playing havoc, but nice gills this past week (7-8"+) with some anglers catching fish to 10".  One 11" caught and released (big hen).  Bedding on warmer lakes,.  Poppers, small leeches, thunderbugs, leaf worms and tiny plastics.

Largemouth Bass:  Good.  Stickbaits, topwater (when warm) hot!  Some bedding, lots staging.  Pitching plastic craws has been hot for both.

Smallmouth Bass:  Good. Very similar to Largemouth.  Typically done before largemouth but, with crazy weather, anglers finding fish in prespawn, spawn and post spawn.

Pike:  Good. Spinnerbaits, #3 Mepps, Chubs on jigs always scoring well.

Stable weather would help.  Too much NE-SE wind, but outlook on weather a bit better.  LMB and gills should be in full swing.
