Trail Report:  Happy Thursday! After the super cold of late we are looking at twenties today and tomorrow with sunshine, then a chance of the lower to mid thirties for Friday and Saturday, with a chance of mixed snow Saturday night. We have plenty of snow so a little melt sure won't hurt, infact it will actually help since the snow is so dry now and with the warm up it will get some moisture so it will stick together better when the groomers go over it. It'll feel nice out there riding in these warmer temps! Woohooh! The Snow Gods have blessed us so you all should be out and about riding to your hearts content! Nice is all I can say! This is the best its been in a long time! Even off trail is good. What a winter! Watch out for the deer and the turkeys! They are out in droves and moving around so keep an eye out for them. I keep hearing about trucks and SUVs stuck out by Turlte Lake so just always keep an eye out for the OTHER guy! Snowbirds are grooming three to four times a week so if ya see one get outta their way and give them the thumbs up, cuz we'd be lost without them! Remember to drop me an email and let me know you're adventures and pictures! Remember my reports are plain ole' no bull reports taken from what the groomers tell me, my experience, my friends & family out there, and YOU! Thanks for the email Terry & Scott, and John! What would I do without ya? Talk to ya soon and I'll CYA on the trails! Trail Report: Mancelona Trail Report - February 7, 2009 Jordan Valley Trails Council Updated: 2/7/2009 Base: 8 inches Snowfall Past 24 hours: 0 inches Last Grooming: All trails being groomed daily Current Trail Conditions: Good to Excellent All of the trails are in good shape even with the warm up. They are soft with tan spots now,but no real dirt, just a few streaks alng the edges in spots.Grooming will continue thru the w/e but we may have to give the trails a rest if it warms up tuesday and rains. Petoskey Trail Report - February 7, 2009 Petoskey Snowmobile Club Updated: 2/7/2009 Base: 12 inches Snowfall Past 24 hours: 0 inches Last Grooming: Every night Current Trail Conditions: Good to Excellent We're starting the weekend off with a little warmer weather. Temps as of Saturday morning are hanging right around 40 degrees near Petoskey. The forecast is for possibly a sprinkle or two. That should not keep you from riding, though. The trail will remain cold. Since there will be little or no direct sunshine, you don't have to worry about anything melting. Sunday will bring cooler temperatures again. The groomers are going out every day. Expect some bumps to form by late Saturday but we'll have those smoothed out by Sunday morning. Enjoy the ride. We have one hazard to watch out for. On trail 76, about a mile north of Chandler Hill Rd, there is a natural spring that is flowing under the trail. As the groomer and sleds keep packing down the snow, that water keeps changing course to find a way out. It is starting to rise to the surface of the trail and is creating a small slushy spot right in across the trail. Watch for hazard and yield signs in that area. Stay on the trail. You could hit some large holes if you go venturing off to the side in the open areas. Sunday Morning Breakfasts are now happening. All you can eat from 8am until noon at the clubhouse! Latest Snow: cold until Saturday and a warm up -- Trail Report: ON SITE SNOWMOBILE RENTALS at the WOLF LAKE MOTEL & RESORT & ATV RENTALS of MICHIGAN ARE BACK

Hi Everyone, Saturday the 7th we had 44 degrees and sunny skys, it's great news for every one except snowmobiliers. With this beautiful weather the trails have taken a beating, most of the trails that rely on roads for access are bare. There is still pleny of snow in the woods and the trail base is still good, but it would be better is we would all just stay off of the trails until we get some colder temps and more snow. The forecast for the week looks warm and then on Fridays the 13th, the temp is to drop with a system snow storm, but again this is just a forecast. Remember this is a State wide event, my Ma lives in Indian River and a good friend of mine lives in Gaylord and the same thing has happened there. The groomers will not be out until it does cool off and we get more snow. So far this year we have had 125" of snow and it's only Feb 8th. Not too bad considering we had 138" for the whole season last year and everyone thought that it was a great snow year. But actually last season was a below average snow year, we just didn't have the warm ups last winter, so the snow never left.

We do have rooms and Snowmobiles available for the week and weekend of Feb 8st through Feb 16th and now gas is only $1.84 a gallon, so what are you waiting for?

Check out the WOLFCAM for the snow totals.

Visit our ATV & SNOW REPORT

Here is a list of the snowmobile trails in this area, are you ready? The Baldwin trails go south from here for 146 miles to Newago, Irons trails wrap around Wolf Lake and then heads north for 122 miles and connects to Cadillac and Wellston trails, Cadillac trails connect into the Irons and Wellston trails all the way to Cadillac, then south to Leroy, they groom 124 miles, Wellston trails connect to Cadillac, Platte River trails and Irons and go north and west to Stronach for 68 miles, Pere Marquette trail connects to The Baldwin trail and all the way to Evart and up to Leroy 144 miles, the south Pere Marquette trail to Grand Rapids I think about 140 miles, then north from the Wellston trail you can go all the way to the Empire Airport on the Bear lake and Platte river trails another 150 miles I think. Let's total this up, 146 + 122 + 124 + 68 + 144 + 140 + 150 = 894 in groomed connecting trails just in this area alone and we are right in the middle of them. I don't know about you but that's a ton of riding. Now there is more trails to get to, but that would be just over kill and this is not even counting all of the two tracks and seasonal roads that you can ride. Why spent an extra $200 to $300 in fuel to get to Gaylord or the UP when we have fantastic riding right here and spend that money on snowmobile fuel.

There are over 894 miles of connecting groomed trails that run through this area and surrounding areas, so why would you want to go anywhere else? We have two bedroom lake front rooms with full kitchens, living rooms with a sofa sleeper, (sleeps 6), double lake front rooms with a queen and full beds and a kitchenette (sleeps 4). Double motel rooms with two double beds and a mini fridge, (sleeps 4) and single motel rooms with one full bed, (sleeps 2) and a large suite which has two bed rooms with queen bunk beds and a queen sofa sleeper, (sleeps Ten), full kitchen, full living room, a bar and a fireplace. We have something for everyone.

We RENT SNOWMOBILES right here at the Resort so if you don't have a sled, just let me know and I can get it set up for you, one call does it all. Maybe you just want to try snowmobiling or maybe your sled is broken, we can help.

But remember weekday riding is always the best, less traffic, the gas stations are less busy and it's just a lot safer.

Here is a list of the ORV trails in this area. Little Manistee trails, (46 miles of 50" and 46 miles of 72" trails). Lincoln Hill trails, (21 miles of 50" trails and 21 miles of 72" trails), Little O trail is 46 miles of 50" trails and the Tin Cup Springs trail has (21 miles of 50" and 21 miles of 72" trails. 222 miles total. Then there is about 90 miles of single track motorcycle trails. That's 312 miles of dirty fun.

Visit us at www.wolflakemotel.com or call toll free 877-745-4101 8am until 10pm or from a cell call 231 745 4101 8am until 10pm. See ya soon on the trails. --- Complete Report --- More Report Links

Things got warm Saturday, and the trail was soft with some water spots. Last night it got good and cold, things froze again. We had sunshine today, Sunday which opened up a few wet spots along the way. We headed out late afternoon for a ride. We headed southwest on trail 7 intending to head over Lovells way, but after crossing Old 27 the trail was just too rough to continue on and enjoy it. We turned around, crossed back over 27 this time going east to 679. Again, this trail was very rough. Rode about 10 miles and turned back around. Once we got back on trail 7, Gaylord had groomed and it was fun riding again. Gaylords trails were groomed late tonight and are in good shape. At this time... which is 10 pm. We're just hoping the warmer air can stay south of us! Latest from Ray's Retreat Groomers Report - February 9, 2009 There is a 8-10 inch base. Total snow in and around the area range from 11-15 inches. Trails are holding up and being reported in "FAIR " condition as of Sunday. We need to receive some new snow to help the trails get in better shape. Groomers usually are grooming to the North and South every day except on Tuesday, which is a maintenance day. They are grooming to the West and the East every other day, except on Tuesday, which is a maintenance day. Latest Snow: None -- Trail Report: Greetings Sledders, Those that came up early and rode on Thursday and Friday had great rides all day with Saturday getting shall we say little dicey later in the day. But all in all there were not any complaints and the warmer weather offered a lot more comfort for those that hauled their stuff up here to work on it in the garage and in the parking lot. And that's okay that is one of the reasons we built the thing. We weren't able to groom Saturday night due to the wet snow but we did run yesterday and today and brought everything back in before the next round of bad news weather hits tomorrow and Wednesday. More on that later. Hell, might as well do it now. WEATHER: There are not many good things to talk about here. It's supposed to get into the low 50's tomorrow with the possibility of light rain. Wednesday gets worser then that (gotta love the English language) with a ton of rain forecast then we backslide on the temps and get colder by Thursday with a little snow in the air. I'm not going to crawl out on any prediction limbs at this time and say that we'll be in game over mode because we frankly don't know that right now. We'll have to wait and see if this event turns out to be as bad as forecast. Going to know much more by Thursday afternoon and we'll let you know. There's no particular reason to get into grooming schedules and trail conditions in this report as it's all a function of what the weather ends up doing. Next report Thursday. Keep your fingers crossed often and Please Be Safe, Keith, Sandy and The Girls -- Photos --- Complete Report

Latest Snow: 0 inches -- Trail Report: The trails have been groomed and reflattened from last weekends trampede. The groomers were having a problem with the groomer that runs the new connector trail, but we saw that go by today, so the problem must be handled. All trails are groomed and ready for another fabulous weekend. Yes, the weather is suppose to get a little warmer, but NO SUN. So, that should still make for great riding. High 30s was the last I saw on the weather, and every site has a different story, but the one constant, is that it will be cloudy. Have a great weekend, hope to see ya out there. --- Complete Report --- More Report Links

Newberry - Conditions: N/A Updated: 02 / 10 By: Northcountry
Trail Report: It got into the low 40's yesterday and today we are expected to hit 47. We had a bit of rain over night, then it froze and schools are closed. By Thursday, the Wizards predict a return to more normal temps for our area and snow. The weekend looks promising with colder temps and good chances of snow. With all of that said, I'm sure there are still plenty of lodging opportunities in Newberry. I CAN say FOR SURE that we, Clementz's Northcountry Campground and Cabins have openings for this weekend. I'm guessing that other supporters of this site do too; check out Halfway Lake Resort, the Gateway Motel, The Evening Star and the Comfort Inn. TASA 2/10/09 SNOW ON THE GROUND: 30 inches to 40 inches BASE: 6-10 INCHES (varies from place to place) TRAIL CONDITIONS: I DON’T KNOW AT THIS TIME. The last time we groomed was Sunday night into Monday morning. PLEASE REMEMBER THAT THE VILLAGE OF NEWBERRY HAS AN 11:00 P.M. CURFEW. There are still riders on the trail, at least as of yesterday afternoon. I haven't talked with any sledders to get personal opinions. And just a reminder about the logging going on between Rexton and Trout Lake…when it warms up enough and that 2 mile stretch starts to get a little “iffy”, DO NOT HOP ON THE RAILROAD TRACKS TO GET AROUND IT! You will just have to deal with the sloppiness of that stretch when it happens….and it won’t happen for a while. GRAND MARAIS (as reported by Kay); Last modified: 02/04/2009 08:54:05 Base: 6 to 12" or more On the Ground: 39 to 59 Inches Last Groomed: Last Night Current Trail Conditions: Perfect! Awesome! WOW! Once Again, the trails remain in great shape. We are getting more traffic out there and several inches of fresh snow almost every day. By the time the groomers head out, you've got our work cut out for us. Norm and Chris had the opportunity to run a John Deere groomer this week on our trails. Aside from fuel capacity and weight, they were impressed. Of course, Norm really put her to the test breaking a fresh trail, got her good and stuck, and called in a Tucker to the rescue! One tug and he was free to continue on. Cabin Fever in Grand Marais will be on Valentines Day this year with plans for a snowmobile poker run, cardboard sled races, a chili cook-off and more fun events throughout the day with a Valentine's Sock Hop in the evening. NOTICE UPDATED 1-21-08 - Trail #443 is CLOSED to snowmobile traffic between Trail #88 and Trail #8 for the season - The Chamber of Commerce will be installing signs within the next couple of days that will be easily noticable with detour information Seney Trail Report: AS REPORTED BY DIANE REED DATE: 2/8/2009 BASE: 4-10" PAST 24 Hrs: misty drizzle CONDITION: very good to excellent Trails are in great shape. It got a little warm and drizzly yesterday and there a few dirt spot showing up close to town in the swamp. We have a warm trend this week predicted up here too. Temps are supposed to get in the upper 30's starting tomorrow. We'll have to see how that turns out. We have plenty of snow so I'm sure we'll survive, but things in town will probably get ugly. As long as the temps keep cooling off at night we will continue to groom. The trails in the morning will be hard and turn soft during the day. Riding will still be great. If you are up here next week-end stop by the Bear Trap on the 21st for our groomer ball. The guys will be sure to give you great entertainment as usual. It will be a fun time you won't want to miss. We will be drawing the winner of the gear bags that night. Be sure and get your tickets. Remember you don't have to be present to win. Tickets are on sale at the Bear trap and the local businesses in Seney. PARADISE TRAIL REPORT (as reported via their website); February 2,2009 All the trails are in great shape. St. Ignace - Conditions: Good Updated: 02 / 09 By: Straits Area Snowmobile Club
Trail Report: Warm and soft described last Friday and Saturday. A heavy light mist was in the air all day Sat, but no major rain. Yes we did loose some snow, maybe 8" or so, but it did not hurt riding much at all. The only problem it has presented is a couple small spots on the town trail are really dirty, or down to pavement. You have about 2 block of that to contend with, other then that everything is good to go. While things were warm, we did get the groomers out to get things flattened out - things should have refrozen nice and smooth. And yes, Dave did get the groomer stuck North of Moran, but Jimmy D was able to help him get it out OK. Weather this morning is at 24d and forecasted to stay below freezing all day. In spite of the doom and gloom forecast, things should be just fine around here for the coming weekend. We are supposed to get warm on Tuesday and stay that way until Wednesday night, when a light rain is supposed to turn back to snow. Downstate is forecasted to be above freezing almost all week, but things should be cooler here. I will give regular updates on conditions to help you would with this weekends riding decisions. Logging Info: There is logging North of Brevort on the Carp River Truck Trail, (#470) towards Trout Lake. They are plowing the trail in this area, and it is perfectly ridable, but has lower snow, and is more icy. With any warm weather this may be a trouble spot. I will report on it as much as I can. Remember this weekend is the Bent Ski Classic. *Time to start making your Valentines weekend plans. Feb 14th the Straits Area Snowmobile Club is hosting our annual Fun Run - Dubbed the Bent Ski Classic. Not a normal poker run, no sir. You will have to figure out where to go, what to do next to complete this fun-filled and family journey across our 101 miles of trail. Stop and meet club members and a groomer at the mid-day trail stop. There will be a fire to warm up, free hot dogs, hot chocolate and coffee. You can even see how loud your sled is with a decibel meter on-site. Beginning between 8 and 11 at the Driftwood Bar in St. Ignace, and ending with an included spaghetti dinner at the VFW, it surely will be a great time for all! More information will be posted in the coming week, so be on the lookout! For the latest St. Ignace Reports Click Here --- Complete Report

Trail Report: Trails are holding up fairly well considering the lack of snow lately. We did get a few inches last week. The base is great and the trails are in excellent shape. We rode about 65 miles today. The north and east trail were untouched as we must have gone out just after the groomer. High winds and sun yesterday did beat up the roadsides a bit going in and out of Fife Lake and Kalkaska. Cold temps are in the forecast with some snow. Should be another good weekend of riding. Come on up and rent a sled today! Jamie --- Complete Report --- More Report Links

Add to that the 3-4inches of fresh white stuff today, and you have some perfect snowmobiling conditions. I made the big loop last night, and didn't want to come home, from Ranch Rudolph to Fife Lake, Then to Kalkaska and through Williamsburg, Nothing but pure pleasure. Hope to see you out there. Be courteous and have fun. Thanks Brett --- Complete Report --- More Report Links

For the latest updates Click Here Midnight Monday - Currently a steady rain is falling. Trails will be wet and sloppy Tuesday and Wednesday. Cold weather returns on Thursday. Grand Traverse Snowmobile Council Updated: 2/9/2009 Base: 8 inches Snowfall Past 24 hours: 0 inches Last Grooming: Every day except Sunday Current Trail Conditions: Fair The trails are holding up pretty good for now but not sure how much more warm temps they can take. We have stopped grooming until the weather turns cold again then we'll be out there getting them back into shape. Remember to watch for groomers you never know when one will be coming around a corner or over a hill. Also remember that the signs on the snowmobile trails are there for the safety of snowmobilers, so please don't remove them. We have had 4 stop signs, a mail box for trail maps and a map board stolen since the trails opened. If you see anyone taking any of these items try to get a number off of their sled or vehicle and report it. If you have any comments about the trails or anything else good or bad we would like to hear from you, contact us at gtascsnow@gmail.com Blue Sky Rentals Report - Waiting for update Visit Blue Sky Rentals Website >>>> Traverse City Trail Report - Waiting for update Visit Snowblitz Snowmobile Rentals Website >>>> --- Complete Report --- More Report Links
Western U.P. - Conditions: N/A Updated: 02 / 10 By: Western U.P. Bureau
Trail Report: Unseasonably warm forecast through Wednesday afternoon...but the good news is it starts cooling down with a 50% chance of snow thru Thursday,40% Friday and then lows around 12 Friday night - so back to more normal mid-February temps. We'll just have to wait it out and see what actually transpires. So how do I make sloppy and wet sound good? I don't and for the next couple days it looks like that's what we'll have. Groomers unable to go out until it cools down-right now looks like Wednesday or Thursday night. Hopefully bases will hold up and we'll get the forecast snow to cover them. If the forecast holds, we should have good riding for the weekend. All we can do is keep you updated. We'll let you know just as soon as the groomers are able to go out. REMEMBER: THERE'S NO LONGER A GAS STATION IN SILVER CITY SO PLAN ACCORDINGLY AND STOP IN BERGLAND OR WHITE PINE. NOTE: SIGNS ARE BEING STOLEN AND CAUSING REAL SAFETY ISSUES. BEFORE YOU TAKE THAT "SOUVENIER" CONSIDER THE POSSIBLE CONSEQUENCES. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE... IF YOU WITNESS THIS PLEASE CALL THE DNR ANONYMOUS LINE AT 800-292-7800. THANKS TO THOSE WHO HAVE CALLED - YOU'RE MAKING A DIFFERENCE. Take a look at web cams throughout the area to check out the snow for yourself. Latest Snow: none -- Trail Report: Riding is not possible here due to Spring (like) Temps. If winter comes back I will let you know. The White Pine trail is the former Railroad track stretching from Rockford to Cadillac. Not a challenging trail, but great for families with many towns to visit along the way. --- Complete Report --- More Report Links
