Wisconsin Shooters Excel at Scholastic Pistol Program Championships

World Shooting and Recreation Complex, Sparta, IL – The Scholastic Pistol Program held its first National High School Pistol Championship at the World Recreation and Shooting Complex July 15th through July 20th in Sparta, IL. Around 200 young shooters attended the championship from around the nation.

Of those young shooters, five high school pistol teams from Wisconsin made the long journey to Sparta to compete in this first ever event. Wisconsin was represented by Burlington Demons Pistol Shooting Team, Lake Country Action Shooters, Ozaukee County Pistol Team, Union Grove Pistol Team, and Wilmot Pistol Team.

Ozaukee County Pistol Team Head Coach Rick Leach and his Junior Centerfire squad consisting of Cameron Scheel, Corey Bucholz, Michael Burmesch, and Nicholas Haas had an overall score of 402.22 seconds to secure the 1st Place National Championship. Lake Country Action Shooter’s Junior Centerfire squad Brittany Hamer, Dylan Richman, Michaela Richman, and Teagan Richman with Head Coach Dave Richman took 2nd Place with a score of 412.43 seconds.

Ozaukee County Pistol Team continued to shoot well with their Senior Centerfire squad Andrew Holzer, John Leach, Mitch DelCamp, and Nick Skelton racking up a total score of 346.30 seconds which was enough for a 2nd place win. The Burlington Demons Pistol Shooting Team Senior Centerfire squad, Myles Walker, Ethan Kerr, Mariah Kerr, and Ashley Reesman completed the match with a total score of 435.90 seconds to take home the 3rd place spot.

With Wisconsin taking home 4 out of the possible 6 trophies, Wisconsin State Advisor Jeremy Krusemark stated “I am very pleased and proud of our young Wisconsin athletes. They have worked very hard and this hard work is proven through the match results.”

Out of the 200 youths shooting pistols at the National Championship, a good number of Wisconsin athletes were at the top of the Top Shot list. Ashley Reesman from Burlington Demons Pistol Shooting Team was the 1st place Top Shot for the females. Ashley Matter from Lake Country Action Shooters took 2nd place, and Mariah Kerr from Burlington Demons Pistol Shooting Team placed 3rd overall for the division. The Senior Centerfire Division also had a strong Wisconsin showing with the males Nick Skelton from Ozaukee County Pistol Team taking the top honors for overall Top Shot. Andrew Holzer from Ozaukee County Pistol Team took 2nd place, and Ethan Kerr from Burlington Demons Pistol Team received 4th place.

In the Junior Centerfire Division, Dylan Richman for Lake Country Action Shooters took Top Shot overall nationally and Michael Burmesch from Ozaukee County Pistol Team secured the 4th place spot for males. For the ladies, Lake Country Action Shooters’ Michaela Richman, Brittany Hamer, and Teagan Richman were 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place Top Shot overall. Angela Schumacher from Wilmot came in 4th place which secured the top four nationwide Top Shot positions for this division all hailing from Wisconsin. 

Tara Steffen from Wilmot Pistol Team came in 2nd Place overall for the Female Junior Rimfire Division Top Shot.
